The Journey:
Gianluca Di Costanzo was born, educated and trained as a chef on the Mediterranean island of Ischia (off the coast of Naples). In fact Gianluca's first cooking job was at the famed Regina Isabella Hotel on Ischia, a five star resort and playground for the rich and famous known as "the hotel of a thousand nights." In 1997 he was brought to Sarasota as the chef for Gastronomia where he stayed until he became chef for another Sarasota landmark restaurant, Mediterraneo.
Gianluca opened La Tosca on November 3rd, 2006, in the the Bellagio Harbor Village in Osprey, Florida. La Tosca's signature dish is Angello al'Abbruzzese, braised lamb shank in a light tomato sauce serve over a bed of parmesan risotto with green peas and mushrooms. For an appetizer prior to this extraordinary entree, Gianluca recommends either a crab salad or rock shrimp cocktail.
